About stump grinding
A stump left behind is a trip hazard, a home for pests and a lump in the lawn. A stump grinder chews it down below ground level, along with the main surface roots, so the area can be levelled and used again.
Grinding can follow a removal on the same visit, or be booked on its own for old stumps.
What it covers
- New and old stumps
- Ground below the surface
- Surface roots taken out with the stump
- Grindings raked back or removed

Questions
Stump grinding: common questions
Something else on your mind? Ask in the form below and Albert will get back to you.
How far down is the stump ground?
Below ground level, far enough down to lay soil and turf over the top, or to plant a garden bed.
What happens to the grindings?
They can be raked back into the hole, left on the garden as mulch, or taken away. Let Albert know which you prefer.
Can you reach a stump in the backyard?
Usually. When you enquire, mention how the stump is reached, such as gate widths and any steps, and Albert will confirm the best way to get to it.
